chiropractors / Ads
Google Search Ads for chiropractic clinics.
Chiropractic paid search is constrained by a list. In the United Kingdom there is a closed, published set of exactly 19 conditions a chiropractor may claim to treat in advertising, and anything outside it requires evidence held in advance. AHPRA separately names conditions that must be removed from advertising. Your keyword list and ad copy have to be built from what you are permitted to claim, which is a narrower starting point than most accounts assume.
Build the account from the permitted list, not the demand
The usual way to build a search account is to find what people search for and bid on it. In chiropractic that produces a compliance problem immediately, because a large share of the demand sits around conditions you are not permitted to claim to treat.
In the UK the list is closed and published: 19 conditions, with anything beyond requiring robust evidence held before the claim is made rather than produced after a challenge. AHPRA's chiropractor-specific guidance names conditions that cannot be corrected and must be removed from advertising, and separately warns that publishing a bare list of conditions can imply a claim by itself.
So the account gets built the other way round. Start from what you may claim, then find the searches that map onto it. The result is smaller and it performs better, because the remaining terms are specific enough to write a genuinely relevant ad for.
You are liable for the copy, whoever wrote it
Chiropractic regulators in three countries have independently held that a practitioner is personally responsible for advertising copy they did not write, including copy produced by their marketing agency.
For paid search that is unusually sharp, because ad copy changes often, responsive ad formats assemble headlines automatically, and an agency can publish a new asset without anyone clinical seeing it.
We handle it by fixing the permitted claim set before any copy is written, and by keeping responsive assets inside that set rather than letting the system generate combinations nobody reviewed.
The deterrent figures have moved too. The Hance Limboro prosecution ended in 13 charges, a guilty plea, a conviction and a fine of AUD 29,500 plus costs, and the fine was for using testimonials rather than only for clinical claims. Since 2022 the maximum per advertising offence for an individual has risen from AUD 5,000 to AUD 60,000.
Most of your market does not know it wants a chiropractor
People search the pain rather than the profession. Back pain relief, neck stiffness, sciatica symptoms. Many of them have not decided that a chiropractor is who they need, and some will end up with a physiotherapist or a GP instead.
That makes the click cheaper and the conversion slower, and it makes the landing page do most of the work. The page has to explain what chiropractic care actually involves for that complaint, within the claims you are permitted to make, before it asks for a booking.
It also means judging these campaigns on same-session conversions will understate them. Someone searching a symptom at 11pm is rarely booking at 11pm.
What about ChatGPT Ads for a chiropractic clinic?
Chiropractic falls within the healthcare categories OpenAI reviews case by case, so eligibility is not automatic and the answer may differ by market. The claims restrictions that govern your Google Ads apply equally to anything you run there.
We check eligibility and market availability before you commit budget, and the permitted claim set carries across unchanged.
What we do on a chiropractic ads account
- The permitted claim set for your market established before any copy is written
- Keyword list built from what you may claim rather than from raw demand
- Responsive ad assets kept inside the approved set, not auto-generated beyond it
- Landing pages written for symptom searches rather than profession searches
- Conversion windows set long enough to capture a decision that is rarely immediate
- Any offer checked for the inducement terms requirement
- Monthly reporting on bookings, with the claims position re-checked as guidance changes
Questions
What conditions can we advertise treating?
In the UK, a closed published list of 19, with anything beyond requiring evidence you hold in advance. In Australia, AHPRA names conditions that must be removed from advertising and warns that a bare list of conditions can imply a claim by itself. We build the account from the list that applies to you.
Are we liable if the agency writes the ads?
Yes. Regulators in three countries have separately held the practitioner personally responsible for advertising copy produced by their marketing agency. With responsive search ads assembling headlines automatically, that is a reason to fix the permitted set before anything runs.
Why are our conversions so slow?
Because most people search the pain rather than the profession, and have not yet decided a chiropractor is who they need. The click is cheaper and the decision is slower. Judging these campaigns on same-session conversions understates them.
Does a narrower keyword list mean less traffic?
Less traffic, usually better performance. The terms that survive are specific enough to write a genuinely relevant ad and landing page for, which is what the auction rewards.
