physiotherapists / Ads

Google Search Ads for physiotherapy clinics.

Physiotherapy paid search has an awkward mismatch at its centre. Patients search conditions rather than the profession, and the word clinics most want to use to signal expertise is one the Physiotherapy Board of Australia names as likely to mislead. A workable account bids on what you treat, describes it precisely, and never claims a status the profession does not grant.

Bid on the condition, not the profession

Physio near me is a small share of the available demand. The rest arrives as sciatica, rotator cuff, plantar fasciitis, vestibular symptoms and post-operative recovery, often before the person has concluded that a physiotherapist is who they need.

That is good news for cost, because condition terms are usually cheaper than profession terms, and it is demanding on structure, because each condition needs its own ad group and its own landing page to convert properly.

The clinics that do well here are the ones willing to be narrow. Three conditions covered properly will outperform twenty covered generically, and the reporting will actually tell you which programmes are worth expanding.

The word you cannot use

The Physiotherapy Board of Australia states there is no specialist registration for physiotherapy and names specialises in as advertising likely to mislead. Its own worked example of unacceptable advertising is a practitioner described as a specialist sports physiotherapist.

New Zealand is the mirror image, where Physiotherapy Specialist is a registered scope of practice. So the same headline is a legitimate credential in one market and a regulatory problem in the other.

National Law section 118(2) also criminalises using a specialty word about another person, and unlike section 133 it carries no publisher defence. For an ads account that matters, because responsive formats will happily combine your assets into a headline nobody explicitly approved.

The replacement is not blander copy, it is more specific copy. Post-operative knee rehabilitation is more searchable than specialist, more honest, and gives the auction something concrete to match.

Offers have to carry their own terms

A discounted initial assessment is the most common physiotherapy ad promotion and one of the easiest ways to breach the rules without noticing.

Section 133 makes it an offence to advertise a regulated health service offering a gift, discount or other inducement unless the advertisement also states the terms and conditions of that offer. In a search ad that means the terms belong in the ad, not only on the page it points to.

In New Zealand there is a further contractual layer worth knowing: ACC forbids a clinic from advertising services at a new site until a Conformity Assessment Body has certified it, and requires charges to be clearly displayed and made known before treatment.

What about ChatGPT Ads for a physiotherapy clinic?

Physiotherapy falls inside the healthcare categories OpenAI reviews case by case, so approval is not automatic. The title and inducement rules that govern your Google Ads apply to anything you run there in exactly the same way.

We check eligibility and market availability before you spend, and if the numbers do not work yet we say so.

What we do on a physiotherapy ads account

  • Campaigns built around conditions and programmes rather than the profession
  • All copy checked against the specialist rule for the market you practise in
  • Responsive assets constrained so auto-generated headlines cannot breach it
  • Any offer checked for the section 133 terms requirement before it runs
  • A landing page per condition, not one generic services page
  • Conversion tracking on bookings rather than clicks
  • Monthly reporting by condition, so you can see which programmes earn

Questions

Can our ads say we specialise in something?

In Australia, no. The Physiotherapy Board states there is no specialist registration for physiotherapy and names specialises in as likely to mislead, with a worked example of a specialist sports physiotherapist. In New Zealand, Physiotherapy Specialist is a registered scope, so the position reverses.

What should we write instead?

The work itself. Post-operative knee rehabilitation, vestibular assessment, return-to-sport programmes. More searchable, more honest, and more specific for the auction to match against.

Can we advertise a discounted first appointment?

In Australia, only with the offer's terms stated in the advertisement itself. Section 133 treats an inducement without its terms as an offence, and putting them on the landing page alone does not satisfy it.

Why bid on conditions rather than physio near me?

Because that is where most of the demand is, and it is usually cheaper. It does require a landing page per condition, which is the part most clinics skip and the reason their campaigns underperform.
